I served in the United States Navy, specializing in Information Systems. As a woman in the military and IT field in the early 90s, it was not unusual to be the only female within a department. I was fortunate to be assigned to a squadron focused on training and professional development. I can honestly say I never felt that I was treated any differently than the males within my same field.
On my ten-year anniversary with the US Navy, I decided I was tired of relocating. My husband is from Texas, so we settled in the Houston area. It was then that I joined the Jonas Fitness Team (then known as Fiserv) as a Software Support Associate and have been with the team ever since. I had previous experience in help desk and call center operations but was new to the fitness industry. I have learned a lot over the years and enjoy the fast-paced world of Operations. Every day is something different, and I embrace the challenge.
As the Vice President of Maintenance Operations, my average day consists of planning, organizing, and supporting our strategic goals and initiatives by ensuring we are providing the best customer service possible by focusing on three key performance areas: availability, quality of service, and automation of tools. So, in short, I solve problems!
I have seen the percentage of women increase in many fields that used to be considered male-dominated. This is due to changing attitudes on inclusion in both education and hiring practices. For example, at JFI, we have female Developers, Database Administrators, and Technical Support Associates. I am proud to be part of a team that embraces diversity and encourages inclusion!
Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband of almost 20 years and my two children; a son who is 10 and a daughter who just turned 16! I am currently working towards my Masterโs in Business Administration degree at Texas A&M University. When Iโm not studying or spending time with my family, I enjoy treasure hunting with my husband! Additionally, my husband happens to be a comic book savant. If you ask me nicely, I will send you pictures of our comic book room. It is truly a sight to behold. And, yes, I do attend Comic-Con!
